This individual will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, minimizing risk, and fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across all locations. This individual is expected to be a dynamic leader capable of inspiring a culture of safety through creativity and innovation, strong employee and leader engagement, and a clear understanding that safety is a people-first function that requires a strong collaborative mindset and earned trust through operational savviness.

Requirements:
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS policies, procedures, and programs tailored to warehouse and reverse logistics operations. Evaluate and expand upon current program to ensure sufficient requirements coverage.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Develop a scalable and repeatable incident investigation process that includes but is not limited to root cause analysis and corrective action planning for accidents, near-misses, and environmental events.
  • Design and deliver safety training programs (e.g., forklift operation, PPE usage, hazard communication, lockout/tagout) in accordance with Human Resources learning & development strategy.
  • Maintain all required safety records, logs, and documentation for internal and regulatory reporting.
  • Ensure proper handling, labeling, and disposal of hazardous materials and compliance with HAZMAT requirements.
  • Analyze trends in safety metrics (injuries, near misses, worker’s comp claims) and develop strategies to mitigate future risk.
  • Partner with HR and workers’ compensation insurance providers to develop and implement innovative programs aimed at reducing injury rates and lowering EMOD scores, thereby decreasing insurance premiums and business costs.
  • Implement behavioral safety programs and engage frontline associates in proactive safety practices and facilitate/manage safety committees across all sites ensuring regular monthly activity, detailed note-taking and action planning & execution.
  • Manage ergonomic assessments, injury prevention plans, and return-to-work programs in collaboration with HR.
  • Partner with Operations leaders, HR, and Facilities teams to integrate safety standards into workflows and SOPs.
  • Serve as the company’s main liaison during inspections or audits by OSHA or other regulatory bodies and maintain detailed records of all regulatory interactions.
  • Support the onboarding of new facilities with initial safety assessments, training rollout, and hazard mitigation planning.
  • Develop and test emergency response plans, fire safety protocols, and evacuation procedures at each site.
  • Coordinate with local emergency services and maintain relationships with relevant regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety leadership role, preferably in warehousing, distribution, logistics, or manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHMM, or OSHA 30 preferred.

Key Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset.
  • Excellent communication and training abilities — capable of engaging all levels of the organization.
  • Able to travel to multiple facilities as needed (up to 50% travel).
