The Oregon State Firefighter Apprenticeship is a registered apprenticeship program through the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industry (BOLI) and the Oregon State Firefighters' Council (OSFFC). This is a two-year program set to begin April 20th, 2026. The program includes paid on-the-job training, a 12-week Fire Academy, and paid tuition for required academy classes to obtain FF1 and EMT certification.
UCFD#1 is currently looking to hire five (5) hard-working individuals interested in the fire service who are committed to the two-year program. The position requires no prior experience in fire or emergency medical services, and apprentices will receive on-the-job training throughout the program.
Minimum Qualifications:
Fire Academy:
Apprentices will begin the duration of the program with a 13-week Fire Academy. The academy is physically demanding and includes both fire and emergency medical services (EMS) training. Instruction is given in both a hands-on and a classroom setting and includes both physical and written testing.
Post Academy:
Following successful graduation from the fire academy, apprentices will be assigned a UCFD#1 firefighter as their Field Training Coach (FTC). Apprentices will spend the majority of their time with their FTC, receiving on-the-job training. Post academy, apprentices will work the UCFD#1 shift schedule- 24 hours on, 72 off.
